A magnitude-5.1 earthquake occurred in northern Chile, near the shared border with Bolivia, at around 06:53 June 1. The epicenter was about 42 km (26 miles) west-south-west of Ollague, Chile. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 95 km (59 miles), and weak shaking was probably felt in Antofagasta and Tarapaca regions of Chile; Potosi Department, Bolivia, and extreme northwestern Argentina. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are possible over the coming days.
