The United States and Chile on Friday exchanged letters to ensure American cheese and meat producers will continue to be able to export goods that use certain specialty names. The two sides have since 2021 been negotiating a side letter to protect U.S. market access for cheeses and meats that use what the U.S. considers common names. The negotiations were prompted by Chile’s trade talks with the European Union, which launched in 2017 and concluded in December 2022.
