The number of flamingos in Chile is dwindling, prompting scientists to trap the birds and attach satellite transmitters to track where they are going. In 2023, there were nearly 100 reported flamingos in Chile's National Zoo. Authorities now say there are fewer than 15 right now. Zoo authorities say flamingos are highly sensitive to anthropic factors like truck noise and are the first to detect negative effects of their environment. Scientists hope with the satellite transmitters they'll be able to gather data on where they feed, breed, and what is feasible for their habitat.
