Some of the most important science in astronomy has been carried out by Chile, from studying black holes to tracking the traces of debris left behind by NASA’s DART spacecraft when it crashed into Earth with Asteroid Didymos. By some estimates, Chile holds half or more of the world’s astronomical infrastructure, thanks largely to the favorable skies of the Atacama Desert in the northern region of the country.
