A magnitude-5.0 earthquake occurred just offshore of far southern Atacama Region at around 20:59 Feb. 15. The epicenter was about 98 km (61 miles) north-northwest of La Serena, Chile. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout parts of southern and central Atacama and northern and central Coquimbo regions in Chile and northwestern San Juan Province in Argentina.
