Chile's economic activity in January beat market forecasts and put an end to a negative string of four consecutive monthly drops, with improved mining results helping the world's largest copper producer start the year in a positive tone. The local IMACEC index, a close proxy of gross domestic product (GDP), rose 0.4% in January from the same month last year, the central bank said on Wednesday, while economists polled by Reuters had expected a 0.5% fall.
