Chile's national fisheries and aquaculture service, also known as Sernapesca, has reported on April 19 a new harmful algal bloom event causing mass mortality in Hornopiren, in the country's Los Lagos region, specifically impacting the salmon concession group (ACS) 17B. Sernapesca attributed this bloom to the presence of the microalga Heterosigma akashiwo.
